Since the early 1990's, Jacksonville has been in a state of constant strife. Several clans have been at war with each other and the masquerade has been nearly breached several times. To add to this, Lupines have taken control of the outskirts of the city and nearly cut off kindred travel in and out. In early 1996, the then ventrue elder, Alex Richards, stepped up and established a peace agreement between several clans. Seeing that their war threatened the very existence of kindred, the clans agreed to peace and elected Richards as the first prince of Jacksonville in five long years.
As a first order of business, Richards, with the help of his gangrel allies, opened a safe route through the lupine controlled outskirts which increased (to a limited degree) travel in and out of the city. In exchange, the prince granted the Gangrel sole feeding rights in the outskirts and the nearby areas.
Richards also agreed to allow a council of elders to rule the city, (with him having final say, of course) and set forth to find members of each major clan to serve on the council.
The city's Kindred population has flourished in the nearly three years of Richards' rule and things seemed to be going well. That all changed several months ago. Peter Roberts, Prince Richards' first and only child and heir apparent to the throne, was killed. All evidence of the murder pointed to the Seneschal, and the best friend of the prince. the Lasombra, Jacob McCain. Not wanting to start another clan war with the Lasombra without enough evidence against McCain, the prince only removed the Lasombra from his position and from the Prince's court. The prince and his aides still search for enough evidence to allow the Prince to declare a blood hunt on McCain. The Prince has refused to sire another child until Peter's killer is brought to justice.
